About the brand
Clean-burning candles with a cause built in, Milk Jar started in founder Holly Singer’s kitchen as a way to bring beautifully scented, plant-based candles to the Calgary market while raising money for disability support programs. Holly’s original goal was $500 in the first year. Nearly a decade later, Milk Jar has raised more than $490,000 for non-profits supporting inclusion initiatives and safe workplaces.
The Calgary-based brand is now a Canadian apothecary staple, with candles, reed diffusers, perfume rollers, and shower steamers stocked across the country. Every candle is plant-based and phthalate-free, poured at the brand’s factory and retail space where the team models inclusive employment as a core operating principle. The mission has grown, but the two founding ideas still run through everything: make something beautiful to burn, and use the business to help humans.
