Loui Review: The Bathroom Upgrade You Didn’t Know You Needed
Editor’s note: Loui was previously known as Loo Drops and recently rebranded. The bottles photographed in this review reflect the previous packaging.
Bathroom fears aren’t usually the starting point for a lifestyle product—but Loui manages to turn it into something surprisingly elevated. The Canadian brand makes pre-poo drops, a simple idea designed to neutralize unpleasant bathroom smells before they linger. A few drops in the toilet bowl before you go creates a barrier that helps trap odours under the water’s surface.
It’s not a new concept—similar products have existed for years—but Loui approaches it with a more modern lens: sleek packaging, cleaner ingredients, and scents that feel closer to fragrance than air freshener.
Naturally, we had to try it. Here’s our honest take.
First Impressions
The first thing that stands out about Loui is the packaging.
Unlike many bathroom products that lean heavily into novelty or humour, Loui looks intentionally designed. The bottle feels more like something you’d find on a bathroom shelf at a boutique hotel than under a sink cabinet. The scent profile is also noticeably more refined than typical bathroom sprays. Instead of artificial citrus blasts, Loui leans into subtle, layered fragrances that feel calmer and more natural.
Application is simple: add a few drops to the toilet bowl before you go. Loui takes care of the rest.
Does It Actually Work?
Short answer: yes—surprisingly well.
The drops create a thin layer on the surface of the water, helping to trap odours beneath it. In practice, this means the bathroom doesn’t immediately smell like… well, a bathroom. And unlike sprays that try to mask smells afterward, Loui works preventatively, which makes a noticeable difference.
We also found the scent itself to be relatively subtle. It’s present, but not overpowering—and it fades naturally rather than lingering aggressively.
The Scent Experience
One of Loui’s biggest strengths is that the fragrance feels intentional rather than gimmicky. Many bathroom products either smell medicinal or aggressively perfumed. Loui sits somewhere in between, offering scents that feel lighter and more thoughtfully blended. It’s closer to a home fragrance moment than a typical bathroom deodorizer. That alone makes it feel like a small but meaningful upgrade to everyday routines.

The Scents, Ranked
Loui currently offers four scent options. After trying all of them, the drops themselves work consistently well—it really comes down to personal fragrance preference. Here’s how the scents stacked up:
1. Lavender Woods
This was the winner for us. The lavender is soft rather than overly floral, and the cedarwood adds a grounding warmth that makes the scent feel calm and spa-like. A touch of rosemary keeps it fresh and balanced. It’s subtle, relaxing, and the most refined of the four.
2. Santal Vanilla
A cozy, slightly richer scent built around earthy sandalwood and warm vanilla. The addition of spearmint keeps it from feeling too heavy, giving it a clean edge that works well in a bathroom setting.
3. Eucalyptus Citrus
Bright and invigorating, with eucalyptus paired with lemon and lemongrass. This one leans the most “fresh and clean,” making it a good option if you prefer a classic bathroom scent profile.
4. Bergamot Mint
A lively combination of bergamot, peppermint, and grapefruit. It’s the most energetic scent of the lineup, but also the most noticeable. If you prefer something very subtle, this one might feel a bit stronger.
Overall, all four scents perform well—it simply comes down to whether you prefer soft and calming, warm and cozy, or bright and refreshing.
The Packaging
Loui’s bottle is compact, minimalist, and easy to leave out on the counter without feeling like you’re advertising bathroom logistics to your guests. It’s bathroom-friendly without being embarrassing. For households that care about design—even in small details—it’s an appealing shift from the typical plastic-heavy alternatives. On a bathroom counter, it looks more like a skincare product than a pre-bathroom ritual.
The Verdict
Loui is one of those products you might not think twice about at first—but after trying it, the appeal becomes surprisingly clear. It’s simple, effective, and thoughtfully designed—turning an everyday bathroom solution into something that feels a bit more elevated. It might just be the most polite product in your bathroom.
