Scent can transport you back to a moment, and that’s the premise behind Mala, a Vancouver-based candle studio making hand-poured candles inspired by nostalgia and everyday memories. Each candle is crafted from natural coconut soy wax, lead-free cotton or wood wicks, and a premium blend of phthalate-free fragrance and essential oils, giving a slow, clean burn that fits easily into self-care rituals.
The brand started as a side project by founder Melody Lim, who began pouring candles after her day job until an unexpected layoff turned the passion into a full business. Lim hired her mother as her first employee, and Mala has since grown slowly and intentionally, recently passing into the hands of a new family who carry forward the original small-batch, memory-evoking mission. Earth-friendly practices shape every detail: tin vessels made from 25% recycled content, FSC-certified boxes, biodegradable packing peanuts, and a partnership that plants one tree for every candle sold.
